Mobility retailer CareCo is celebrating becoming certified in accordance with a number of ISO standards.

The ISO standards achieved by CareCo as a business are ISO 9001, 13485, 14001, and 45001.

ISOs are internationally recognised standards created by international experts with the aim of helping businesses establish levels of operational consistency.

ISO 9001 is related to Quality Management Systems (QMS). This standard provides businesses with the requirements to create and implement necessary policies, processes, and procedures to provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory needs and improve customer satisfaction.

ISO 13485 is similar to 9001 but it’s specifically for medical devices. By adopting ISO 13485 it provides CareCo with a practical foundation to address the EU and UK Medical Device Regulation (MDR). This demonstrates CareCo’s commitment to the safety and quality of medical devices they place on the UK market.

ISO 14001 relates to Environmental Management, and being certified demonstrates CareCo’s commitment to reducing their carbon footprint to meet UK’s Net Zero target.

ISO 45001 relates to Occupational Health & Safety. The standard defines a framework that CareCo has adopted to demonstrate their commitment to the health and safety of their employees. It represents a set of rules, policies, processes, plans, and practices for preventing occupational health and safety hazards and minimizing risks in the workplace.

Natalie Hays, Head of Quality and Compliance at CareCo says, “One of our key goals for 2024 was to become certified in accordance with several ISO standards important to us as a business. The aim is for CareCo to establish operational consistency in-line with internationally recognised standards.

“Our ISO journey began in November of 2023, and in the 11 months prior to our audit we had the creation of the Integrated Management System (IMS), the development of company-wide and department policies, and process improvements to strengthen our internal infrastructure and support the rapid and continuing growth of CareCo.

“I’m hugely proud of this achievement for the business. It’s been a lengthy process, working with the ISO auditors but we were able to successfully conclude our audits with no non-conformances. Then after a 6-week independent technical review of the audit reports, we were awarded all 4 ISO certifications for the 4 CareCo sites included in scope.

“This is a huge achievement for us as a business and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing internal teams who kindly gave up time in their busy schedules to speak with auditors and provide all the required information. None of this would have been possible without the fantastic CareCo team spirit and inter-departmental collaboration.”

CareCo has shops across England, Scotland, and Wales. Recently the retailer hosted a charity gala dinner recently which raised over £6,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
