Care & Independence introduces two multi-functional assisted bathing solutions to its range
Safe patient moving and handling specialists Care & Independence have introduced two new products to its bathroom solution line-up which it states will solve assisted bathing issues for both users and carers.
First previewed at the Scottish Moving & Handling Forum in May and launched at the National Back Exchange Conference in September, the new Skye Chair (997) and Skye Cradle (996) models form a new HiLo Tilt Recline Hygiene System family for the company.
James Bennett, Sales & Marketing Director emphasises the transformative nature of the Skye Chair and Skye Cradle stating: “These two new products open up a world of adaptability, providing exceptional flexibility across height and angles of operation.”
Addressing a common real-world assisted bathing challenge, he adds, “By applying some blue-sky thinking, we’ve engineered a practical multi-functional solution for the bathroom that will help improve the lives of so many; Carers can operate comfortably and without strain at their preferred height, while users are positioned at a supportive and comfortable angle tailored to their individual needs.”
James insists Care & Independence have delivered something that goes so much further than standard tilt-in-space offerings and yet without the traditional bulk of a trolley-style solution.
“The sheer versatility of the Skye offerings are just remarkable; toileting, bathing, changing and transfer functionalities – that’s four products in one! With these products, we’ve removed the assisted bathing ceiling and the sky’s the limit with what can be now achieved in one convenient ultimate solution.”
The Skye Chair and Skye Cradle products set new height records, according to Care & Independence, standing some 16cm taller at their maximum than alternative options. The new models also combine both recline and tilt functionality to give added versatility, further enhancing accessibility and comfort for users with restricted seating positions, and effortlessly facilitates easier care provision through the opening up of body angles.
Powered by a soft-start motor with rechargeable battery, transitions through height, recline and tilt adjustments are smooth and seamless, with an excellent centre of gravity throughout providing reassuring stability. The powder-coated stainless-steel frame remains rust (and scuff) proof even in a wet environment.
Soft 3D-Spacer fabric supports the entire length of the body, with tension easily adjusted to suit personal preferences. Less abrasive to delicate wet skin than mesh, and infinitely more comfortable than moulded plastic, the 3D-Spacer fabric offers excellent air-drying time post-bathing, state Care & Independence. Clunk-click buckles make quick and easy removal for laundering, helping improve hygiene control versus fixed wipe-down options.
Designed for ease of transfer and access, the removal armrests boast integrated padding to the side and top rail for user comfort. Four 5” braked castors secure placement and smooth transition – even over carpet and door thresholds. Customisation options abound with a choice of seating types catering to diverse needs and preferences. Both variants are suitable for use over a standard toilet with a wash/dry option, with additional accessories available such as a commode pan and rack.
As well as bathing and toileting needs, the Skye Chair and Skye Cradle can just as easily serve as a changing station for removal/fitting of clothes or for dressings. Both models are supplied with a lapstrap as a security standard.
Offered in one size with a generous SWL of 180kg, and with a 15-year product warranty, the Skye Chair and Skye Cradle are available for free joint assessments now.
