Borough council in Esher to host free healthy ageing event to help residents stay active
Elmbridge Borough Council in Esher is holding a free healthy ageing event to help residents explore expert advice, assistive technology, free activity tasters, and support from local organisations and health partners to help stay active, independent and well in October.
Together with health and community partners, the council is holding the event at the Elmbridge Xcel Leisure Complex, Walton on 1 October from 11.30am to 1.30pm.
The event will bring together a wide range of organisations offering advice, support, and activities tailored to older adults.
Residents that are looking for information on staying active, managing health, tackling loneliness, or exploring new hobbies will have the opportunity to drop in for a chat, or email wellbeing@elmbridge.gov.uk to book a one-to-one advice session in advance.
Topics include assistive technology; falls prevention; palliative care; social isolation and loneliness; disability support, and physical activity and rehabilitation.
Attendees have the chance to speak with representatives from Adult Social Care Engagement and Partnerships; Age UK; CHEER; Citizens Advice, Esher and Walton-on-Thames and Elmbridge West; Elmbridge Borough Council care and repair, dementia services, and connected communities services; Macmillan; Mary Frances Trust; Places Leisure; Sport in Mind; Surrey Downs Health & Care, MSK – musculoskeletal issues; U3A activities, and Walton Charity.
Places Leisure will be running free activity taster sessions throughout the event. The sessions include walking football from 11am to 12pm.
Mobility, strength and balance at 11.30am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 1pm, a low intensity class to mobilise the joints, gently strengthen the muscles and improve balance. Can be performed seated or standing so suitable for a range of levels.
Badminton and table tennis drop-in from 12.15pm to 1.45pm, this will be a casual session, equipment will be provided.
