Following the success of last year’s BHTAsteptember event, the British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA) has announced it is repeating the event in 2018 to raise money for the Stroke Association and is opening up the campaign to all its members.

Established by the BHTA’s stairlifts and access section, BHTAsteptember is an annual event which helps to raise money for health-related causes (the Association raised over £3600 last year for charity Scope).

This year the event – which is open to all BHTA member companies – asks people to walk 10,000 steps every day of September to help raise £10,000 for the Stroke Association.

The challenge is to walk a total of 300,000 steps over the 30 days of September, which can be made up from any activity from walking, running, dancing or just from a day-to-day routine.

A launch walk for the event has been arranged at Grafham Water, near Huntingdon, on 3rd September.

Sally Edgington, Research & Support Lead at BHTA and organiser of BHTAsteptember, commented: ” Steptember is a fantastic opportunity to stay active and bring members together from across the Association to raise money for a worthy cause.

“We chose the Stroke Association this year as many BHTA member companies provide equipment and services to stroke survivors and the disease also affects many people personally.

“We’re calling on all members to get involved in the event and join us at our launch walk on 3rd September.”

The charity will be presented with a cheque from the money raised from Steptember at the BHTA’s Annual Awards Dinner on 29th November at Alton Towers Hotel.

At present, there are more than 1.2 million stroke survivors in the UK with 100,000 strokes occurring in the UK every year; stroke is the fourth single largest cause of death in the UK.

Dedicated to conquering stroke, the Stroke Association is a charity which campaigns for better stroke care and research to reach as many stroke survivors as possible.

To sign up for BHTAsteptember, email Sally Edgington at Sally.Edgington@bhta.com with a list of the names of the participants by 10th August.
