BES Healthcare has announced that it will present a free to attend webinar hosted by the Society of Tissue Viability in March 2025.

The aim of this presentation is to discuss the risk of a catastrophic fire when using powered mattresses and actions that can be taken to mitigate the risk.

Taking place on 25 March 2025 from 6.30 pm – 7.30 pm, those interested in attending the ‘Pressure ulcer treatment vs fire risk: A case discussion’ can register to attend on the Society of Tissue Viability website.

At the end of the session, attendees will be able to articulate the adverse outcomes associated with the development of a Category 4 pressure ulcer, and recognise human factors which must be considered prior to providing a powered mattress to people who smoke.

Other learning objectives include discussing potential intervention strategies and their effectiveness in minimising the risks associated with accidental dwelling fires; examining the role of individuals, and agencies, that are in contact with people at risk and how they can be employed to reduce the risk from fire, and discussing national and international fire standards, and issues that need to be considered when procuring beds, mattresses and cushions.

This webinar is suitable for clinicians who are involved in the care of patients who smoke and require equipment for pressure relief. This is also suitable for people involved in procurement.

The session will be presented by speakers including the Director of BES Healthcare Dr Barend ter Haar, and Jeannie Donnelly, Lead Nurse Tissue Viability & Honorary Senior Lecturer at Belfast Health & Social Care Trust & School of Nursing, and Queens University Belfast.

Additionally, the Station Commander at Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and Ulster University Peter Cassidy, and Sarah Gardner, Independent Tissue Viability Consultant at Wound Matters, will present at the session.

BES Healthcare recently announced that NEST pressure care products are now available from its range.
