clearwell mobility plastic bag reduction

After announcing a number of changes to the way it does business in order to reduce its impact on the environment, Clearwell Mobility has reported a dramatic 83 percent decrease in plastic bag usage.

From 1st June 2019, Clearwell Mobility, the South East’s largest Motability-accredited mobility dealer, unveiled it was rolling out a number of green initiatives to help reduce the company’s impact on the environment, including charging 5p for plastic bags.

Aiming to slash the 22,000 plastic carrier bags it issued last year by encouraging users to bring their own reusable bags, the company stated that all funds raised from the bag charge would be donated to national charity Gardening for Disabled Trust.

Two months since the green initiative was introduced, the mobility retailer has highlighted it has seen an 83 percent decrease in the number of plastic bags it used, when compared against reports from July 2018 and July 2019.

“That is a significant reduction and we are very proud of the difference our stores our making to the environment, and a big thank you to our loyal customers for remembering to bring reusable bags!” said the company.

The news comes as climate change and environmental concerns continue to rise up the geopolitical agenda, with the widespread proliferation of plastic pollution recently making headlines.

According to National Geographic, approximately eight million tons of plastic waste escapes into the oceans every year, with plastic bags taking anywhere between 20 to 1000 years to decompose.
