Anglia Stairlift Phil Rice

As lockdown measures continue in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, mobility and access specialist Anglia Stairlifts has launched a new virtual service for customers concerned about having individuals’ visit their home.

The East Anglia-based mobility company is offering end-users the option to have a virtual preliminary visit to their homes to assess their requirements and provide an accurate quote without a person having to set foot into the customer’s home.

“The vast majority our customers are classed as vulnerable and we have a duty of care to do everything we can to keep them safe,” explained Phil Rice, Managing Director of Anglia Stairlifts.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has created issues with our ability to do this as most have been advised not to go out as well as to not let anyone into their property. We needed a way of making sure that those who may be more vulnerable to the virus still have access to essential stairlifts/homelifts.

“Knowing that a lot of people now have smartphones/laptops etc, we feel that this is one of the safest ways for our clients to receive quotations and answer any queries they may have.”

Embracing the range of different technologies on the market that are helping people to connect and share video remotely, Anglia Stairlifts’ service sees it working with end-users to learn more about their needs and the setting that the lift will be fitted into.

“It all starts with booking the ‘virtual visit’ – this can be done by either giving us a call, sending us an email or filling in a booking form from our website,” continued Phil.

“Once we agree on a date and time, the customer can expect to receive a video call on their chosen platform (Whatsapp, Facebook, Skype, Facetime or Zoom). In this call, we will ask the customer to show us the staircase and then go through with them all the available options.”

After receiving all the information needed, the stairlift company then provides a free, no obligations quote to the customer.

“If they would like us to go ahead, we will then send an engineer round to measure up,” he said.

“This process is one with no contact and when our engineer arrives outside, they will ring the customer to inform them to relocate to a room where they will be out of the way.”

Alongside the measures to ensure social distancing, Anglia Stairlifts’ engineers also wear personal protection equipment (PPE), including masks and gloves, to keep both the customer and its team safe.

“This process is then repeated for the install so throughout the entire transaction the client will not have to come in contact with anyone,” added Phil.

According to the company, the service has already been used by several customers and has been well-received.

“The feedback has been all positive and customers have all praised how clear the information we have given them has been and also how convenient the call was,” finished Phil.

“There has been a lot of praise too for how we were able to work around the time that suited them so they could get everything ready that they needed, as well as how knowledgeable we have been and how seriously we are taking the pandemic.”
