Aiming to ensure end-users using recliner chairs as beds have the appropriate support surface, MediSmart Technologies is showcasing its Microcell Companion alternating air mattress for rise & recline chairs at the upcoming NAEP Conference this June.

The UK manufacturer of a range of pressure care systems will aim to reach providers engaged in the supply of community equipment and assistive technology products, highlighting how the new ultra-thin 70 cell Microcell Companion can reduce the risk of pressure ulcers in people who tend to use recliner chairs as beds for long periods.

“Although I realise that it is not encouraged that patients/service users use recliner chairs in a supine position as beds, the facts are that many do and therefore are not always on the appropriate support surface as they would have in a profiling bed,” explained David.

“This has encouraged the need to manufacture such a comfortable system.

“The benefit to the user is that the ultra-thin microcells mean that the height of the chair is not compromised and that it can fit easily fit onto the recliner chair with the integral straps provided. We have also been asked to manufacture both full size and two-thirds options.”

Comprising of a slim alternating air mattress with an easy-to-use pump, the Microcell Companion can be retrofit onto any recliner chair says the company and has already received positive initial feedback.

Alongside showcasing the Microcell Companion at NAEP, David and Andrew Stevenson, Interim Director General of the British Healthcare Trades Association, will be delivering two workshops on the BHTA Delayed Transfer of Care paper and the What Lies Beneath paper.

“Whenever the diary permits, I have always endeavoured to support the NAEP Conference both in terms of attending with a stand of innovative products and also being a member of the NAEP Conference Organisers’ Committee,” added David.

“It is always a good learning opportunity to listen to interesting speakers as well as having a relaxed atmosphere to talk and discuss with NAEP members, equipment store managers and therapists who are able to attend.”

This year’s NAEP Conference takes place from the 11th-12th of June at the Chesford Grange Conference Centre and Hotel in Kenilworth, Warwickshire.
