Adapted wheelchair lives up to mobility retailer’s expectations at the London Marathon

Mobility retailer Dan Metcalfe raised £1,720 for Spinal Research after completing the London Marathon in April in four hours and 26 minutes, with a total of over £200,000 being raised by marathon participants.
Dan, a T8 complete paraplegic, works for Cambridgeshire-based Draft Wheelchairs and, as reported in THIIS recently, had been loaned the use of a carbon fibre Track Wheel attachment from Rehasense for the event.
The Track Wheel has been designed to transform a standard manual wheelchair into an agile tricycle to enable wheelchair users to experience greater freedom.
By attaching the 12” Track Wheel, the wheelchair’s castors are raised which slightly tilts the chair backwards and by noticeably reducing the rolling resistance, the user can enjoy increased speed, manoeuvrability and comfort.
The single arm model has been designed for use with rigid wheelchairs while the double arm model, which Dan has, is designed for use with foldable wheelchairs featuring fixed integrated footrests.
Dan commented: “The day itself lived up to all my expectations in terms of atmosphere and the crowds.
“Rehasense have been a great support to me during my training for the event by donation of a Track Wheel and it certainly helped on the day itself as some of the course was not that smooth.
“During the marathon, I had several fellow wheelchair users ask me about the Track Wheel as they could see what a difference it was making.”
Jordan Day, Rehasense UK’s UK Sales Manager along with his wife Jess also took part in the London Marathon in April.
“The marathon was an amazing day which we will never forget. Our final time was four hours 45 minutes and we were delighted to raise £3,420 for Bliss who supported us when our daughter Louella was born 11 weeks prematurely,” commented Jordan.
Dan added: “It was great to see Jordan and Jess taking part and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jordan and the Rehasense team for their support over the last few months.”
