Acorn Stairlifts rolls out new technology across 136 vehicle fleet to cut fuel costs and CO2 emissions
In a bid to improve fuel consumption, reduce CO2 emissions and improve driver safety, global stairlift manufacturer Acorn Stairlifts has rolled out a new driver performance platform across its fleet of 136 commercial vehicles to encourage smooth, efficient driving.
The stairlift giant has introduced the Lightfoot technology across its fleet, a unique in-cab technology that shows drivers if they are driving efficiently or inefficiently in real-time via a device that connects to a vehicle’s computer.
Adjusting its feedback according to live engine data, the light on the pocket-sized dashboard display will go from green to red if a driver is pushing the engine too far.
In addition, Lightfoot also includes an accompanying app which provides drivers with a full insight into their performance and score after each journey. Drivers can also gain access to exclusive competitions for Elite Drivers through the app, including a newly launched cash-prize Drivers’ Lottery, as well as rewards that serve as an incentive to maintain a smoother driving style.

Launched in 2013, Lightfoot says its driver behaviour technology has already resulted in a miles per gallon saving of 12.3 percent and a 100 percent reduction in over speeding amongst its users.
Aiming to reduce the company’s fuel bill, alongside its carbon footprint and claims incidence, Acorn Stairlifts highlighted that upgrading its fleet to hybrid or electric vehicles would have been too expensive at the moment and wanted a more immediate alternative solution.
Convincing the Yorkshire mobility manufacturer that even the cleanest vehicles will only ever be efficient as those driving them, the decision to implement the technology across its fleet of 136 commercial vehicles and company cars came following a trial of the technology which Acorn said led to immediate and positive outcomes.
“Acorn Mobility’s drivers have really embraced Lightfoot, adopting our inter-league function, which enables drivers from different regions to compete and see who’s the most efficient,” commented Lightfoot’s Founder and CEO, Mark Roberts.
“In the trial phase, we saw 81 percent of drivers hitting our Elite Driver standard and I’m delighted to see the continuing, positive impact that this has had for the business.”
