Accessible outdoor adventure charity to hold fundraising week to help people with disabilities

The Lake District Calvert Trust, a charity dedicated to enabling people with disabilities to experience the benefits of accessible outdoor adventure, is getting set to hold its fundraising week to help support the charity’s Enabling Adventure Fund.
The Big Give week runs from 2 December, 12pm to 9 December 2025, 12pm. The fund provides an essential financial contribution to help people with disabilities access a life-changing outdoor adventure break at Calvert.
The Enabling Adventure Fund is designed to help offset the cost for visitors. Funding is regularly released to support groups, families, and individuals that meet a certain criteria.
Schools, community groups, businesses and families have been in touch to tell them how they are going to help reach this year’s goal of £65,000.
‘The Big Give’ doubles the public’s donations made in the week of Tue 2 to Tue 9 December by matching them with Big Give ‘Champions’, such as philanthropists, foundations and companies.
Some of the fundraising friends who have pledged their support already include Cumbrian car dealer, David Hayton Autostores, who have kindly agreed to support the charity during The Big Give week with a very generous donation.
Keswick’s Edwin Thompson Estate Agents are staging their very own Bake Off. The Keswick and Carlisle teams are joining forces with neighbouring businesses to battle it out for Bake Champion, with Calvert’s very own Chief Executive, Sean Day, judging the cakes.
Keswick’s very own ‘slice of Portugal’, Piri Fresco, has pledged a significant donation. Owner Shenuar Hussain hopes that their actions will encourage other local businesses to donate even if they, too, are short on actual fundraising time.
Craft Beer Keswick are raising a glass to the Lake District Calvert Trust during Big Give week as they have generously confirmed they plan to donate during this critical fundraising week.
Bookends, the popular Keswick bookshop have kindly lent the Calvert team a Where’s Wally photo board that the team will be using in their ‘It’s a Doddle’ Mountain Challenge.
Calvert staff are once again throwing themselves into the challenge ahead. This year, over 50 people including staff, friends and local supporters will walk, push, ride, cycle, run, or perhaps even skip, up and down the trail on Dodd Fell, a roughly 300m of ascent per lap, for a full 24 hours, with new groups setting off every hour.
Each team with a minimum two of people will add their effort to the collective total to see how many “Mount Everest” equivalents they can climb in 24 hours. The aim is to help maximise fundraising during ‘The Big Give’.
Chief Executive, Sean Day commented: “What a start to our Big Give campaign 2025! We are genuinely overwhelmed by the pledges of support we’ve received so far. We all lead such busy lives so for so many people to give up their time to help us achieve this year’s target is truly heart-warming.”
“Whether you’re baking buns in the office or hunting for Wallys in the school playground, every bit of effort helps fund more people to experience the freedom and confidence that adventure brings. Coming together during Big Give week to help raise funds for our Enabling Adventure Fund is something that we all ‘can do’. A huge thank you to our fellow Cumbrians in advance for all they’ve done so far to help make this year a success.”
The Lake District Calvert Trust recently announced a three-year partnership with a Cumbrian beer company, the Crooked River Brewing Co.
