Ableworld MD Mike Williams warns mobility retailers to be aware of potential chargeback fraudster
Ableworld, the UK’s largest mobility retailer with 35 group-owned and franchise stores, has issued an alert to others in the industry of a fraudster targeting mobility dealers.
Mike Williams, Managing Director of Ableworld, noted that the individual in the photo has been going to a number of the company’s stores and franchises, attempting to purchase a specific folding mobility scooter with a credit card.
Ableworld confirmed it managed to stop it after a couple of purchases but says until last week, the man in question was still touring the retailer’s stores, attempting to buy the mobility device.
The national retailer confirmed it received its first chargeback today.
“Possibly he’s from the trade and someone knows him, it’s now in police hands, they weren’t interested until we had “the chargeback,” commented Mike.
Warning Ableworld branches to contact HQ as soon as possible if this customer enters the store, the company has informed its staff that no products are to be removed from its premises by the individual.
What is chargeback fraud?
Also sometimes referred to as friendly fraud, chargeback fraud occurs when a customer files a chargeback instead of trying to obtain a refund from the retailer. The customer disputes the changes made to their credit cards, forcing the bank to force a refund under the impression that the retailer has made an error.
In this scenario, the customer receives a refund whilst the retailer is left out of pocket and without the goods that have been sold.
Designed to protect consumers, some frequently exploit and abuse loopholes in the chargeback rules in order to receive goods for free, with the type of fraud particularly prevalent online.https://thiis.co.uk/ableworld-md-mike-williams-warns-mobility-retailers-to-be-aware-of-potential-chargeback-fraudster/https://i2.wp.com/thiis.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Ableworld-fraudster.jpg?fit=338%2C278&ssl=1https://i2.wp.com/thiis.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Ableworld-fraudster.jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1NewsroomRetailer NewsAbleworld, chargeback, credit card, fraud, fraudster,Mike Williams, mobility scooterAbleworld, the UK’s largest mobility retailer with 35 group-owned and franchise stores, has issued an alert to others in the industry of a fraudster targeting mobility dealers.
