Ableworld Dementia BayNationwide mobility retailer Ableworld has announced the introduction of brand-new ‘dementia bays’ across its stores, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to supporting individuals living with dementia and their families.

As diagnoses on the rise, the need for practical, accessible solutions has never been greater. Ableworld’s buying team has carefully developed a dedicated ‘dementia care’ bay – a thoughtfully curated section designed to make shopping easier and provide reassurance for individuals living with dementia, as well as their carers.

Julie Nurton, Senior Buying Manager at Ableworld, explains, “As more people are diagnosed with dementia each year, we wanted to introduce a range of products to help patients remain at home with their loved ones for as long as possible.”

Products in the dementia bay are selected to support daily living while remaining simple and easy to use. A key feature is the considered use of colour: solid, high contrast shades enhance visibility and highlight important items.

Red draws attention to key objects, while blues, greens and yellows promote calmness and clarity. Busy patterns are avoided, and purple, widely recognised as the colour of dementia awareness, helps raise understanding of the condition.Ableworld dementia bay

Each bay also includes a take home leaflet offering guidance on where to find further advice and support.

Although still in the early stages of development, the dementia bays and product range have already been warmly received in stores.

The initiative reflects Ableworld’s wider mission to create inclusive retail environments that meet the evolving needs of all customers.

By introducing these dedicated spaces, Ableworld aims to make shopping more accessible, comfortable, and supportive for people living with dementia and those who care for them.

Last October, Ableworld held its Annual Business Conference, bringing together franchisees, partners, and industry experts to focus on the theme ‘embracing the vision’.
