Colchester AbleworldAbleworld Colchester has officially relocated to a significantly larger premises, marking an important milestone in the nationwide retailer’s growth and reinforcing its commitment to exceptional customer service and operational excellence.

The new 3,800 square feet store, located at 1, The Stanway Centre, Peartree Rd, Colchester CO3 0JY, opened last month and offers a brighter, more spacious retail environment.

The expanded floor space has enabled Store Manager Gerald Roper and his team to improve product displays, create a more accessible layout, and stock a full range of sizes across key product lines.

Customers can now try the exact items they intend to purchase, enhancing satisfaction while reducing the need for returns or repeat visits.

Gerald commented to THIIS: “This move has been a major step forward for us. Our previous premises had reached capacity, which made it challenging to deliver the level of service we strive for. The new store allows us to better support our customers with a more comfortable, efficient, and fully stocked environment.”

The relocation was driven by the limitations of the previous site, where restricted storage space and the need to carry out engineering work in customer-facing areas were beginning to impact productivity and the overall in-store experience.

The move to a larger premises was therefore essential to support continued growth and maintain high service standards.

Careful planning ensured a smooth transition, with the majority of the move completed on a Sunday and deliveries paused to minimise disruption.

Normal operations resumed quickly, and customers experienced little to no interruption in service. Ableworld’s head office worked closely with the Colchester team throughout the process, ensuring the new store meets brand standards while addressing local operational needs.

Gerald added: “This relocation ensures the team has the space and resources they need to continue delivering outstanding service to the local community.”

Despite the expansion, the store remains deeply rooted in the Colchester community, with long-standing customer relationships and generations of families continuing to rely on its products and expertise to support independence and mobility.

In other news, Ableworld recently announced the introduction of ‘dementia bays’ across its stores, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to supporting individuals living with dementia and their families.
