Abacus to host free CPD webinar on accessible bathroom adaptations with occupational therapist
Abacus is hosting a free CPD webinar for occupational therapists, in association with highly respected occupational therapist Kate Sheehan, exploring how bathroom adaptations can balance accessibility, function and aesthetics.
Taking place live on Tuesday 30 June 2026, from 12 noon to 1pm, the webinar is entitled “Adapting the bathroom: Accessibility and aesthetics” and will include a live occupational therapist Q&A.
The session will examine how healthcare professionals can work collaboratively with clients and their families to create bathroom environments that are both functional and aligned with a client’s personal style, while also considering the financial constraints that can often shape adaptation projects.
During the webinar, attendees will explore the evidence and importance of balancing functionality with design in accessible bathroom spaces. The session will also consider collaborative design approaches and review the assessment process for bathroom adaptations, covering both practical and aesthetic considerations.
Kate Sheehan has practised as an occupational therapist for 39 years and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists. She is widely recognised across the healthcare community for her extensive clinical knowledge and expertise.
Known for her client-centred approach, Kate’s work focuses on empowering individuals, creating accessible environments and enhancing occupational engagement. Through her partnership with Abacus, she provides clinical guidance and CPD education to support clients and the professionals involved in their care, with a particular focus on achieving safe, dignified and appropriate bathing outcomes.
