Latest data published by the Sentinel Stroke National Audit programme (SSNAP) has shown that Musgrove Park Hospital is one of the best performing hospitals in the country for providing stroke care. The most recent quarterly performance information from SSNAP shows that Musgrove Park Hospital's performance was amongst the top 5% of the 160 stroke units in the UK who are routinely admitting stroke patients.

Residents at Bupa’s Balcarres Care Home in Dundee have played a key role in developing an audio invention that could benefit millions of people with dementia. Stephanie Post, a fourth-year student studying Digital Interaction Design at Dundee University, worked with the Bupa care home team to help develop ‘Sound Sparks’, a unique audio player device which helps people with dementia connect with sounds from their past.

Staff in homes caring for the elderly and people with learning disabilities, will now be able to identify and respond faster to potential safety issues following the launch of the first acoustic monitoring (AM) solution in the UK care sector. The technology developed by AM experts, CLB, responds to a recent BBC Panorama documentary ‘Behind Closed Doors: Elderly Care Exposed’. The programme highlighted examples of poor care, including the need to better support staff in attending unnoticed calls for help by residents.

Bright Care, one of the most innovative new entrants into the domiciliary care sector in Scotland, is launching a franchise drive with the eventual aim of becoming one of the biggest enterprises of its kind in the UK. Edinburgh-based Bright Care, run by young entrepreneur Tim Cocking, has already clocked up £1m turnover since it began trading in October 2010 and now employs 65 people in the capital and in a pilot franchise in Glasgow.
